Bruxism is the grinding and clenching of the teeth. This happens say at night when you are asleep or during the day when you are stressed. It is a habit that is mostly unconsciously done. The signs and symptoms of bruxism are: Pain in the teeth, sensitivity to hot and cold, facial pain, headaches, worn down tooth surfaces, broken or chipped teeth, stiffness and pain in the jaw joint. The treatment of Bruxism includes reducing STRESS levels, pain killers for facial pain etc, muscle relaxants for the jaw. An occlusal splint needs to be custom made by a dentist to wear at night to protect the teeth. Cracked and chipped teeth will need to be restored and worn down teeth built up ideally with crowns.
